MDKMITL World Culture Academic Trip 2025 – Day 3
On February 10, 2025, the final day of our World Culture Academic Trip, we continued exploring Thailand’s rich history and cultural heritage.
Our day began at Wat Phutthaisawan, a royal monastery located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya period. Known for its grand structure and historical significance, this temple is mentioned in ancient chronicles as having been built by King Ramathibodi I (King U-Thong).
We then visited Wat Na Phra Meru, a temple situated on the northern side of the old city moat (formerly the Lopburi River), directly across from the Royal Palace. Historically known as Wat Phra Meru Rachikaram, it is believed to have been constructed at the site of a royal cremation ground during early Ayutthaya. The ordination hall (Ubosot) reflects Ayutthaya-style architecture, with interior columns and later-added supporting pillars. The temple houses an impressive bronze Buddha image in royal attire, created during the late Ayutthaya period or restored during that time. Behind the main hall, there is another smaller Buddha statue, representing Maitreya (the future Buddha).
The final stop of our journey was Wat Kudi Dao, an ancient temple known for its striking ruins. Built during the Ayutthaya Kingdom, this temple was once a significant royal monastery and a center for Buddhist learning. The remaining structures include a large ordination hall with intricately carved windows and walls, reflecting the architectural craftsmanship of its time. Wat Kudi Dao also holds historical importance, as it was restored under Prince Borommakot’s patronage, who later became King Borommakot, marking an era of flourishing religious and cultural development.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Ariyathaj Panmek, whose expertise and detailed explanations enriched our understanding of these historical landmarks.
On behalf of MDKMITL, we extend our deepest gratitude to K. Jiew and the team from My Life Tour Company for their exceptional organization and care throughout our journey. Their dedication ensured a seamless and enriching experience for all participants.
