Sustainability Beyond Medicine with Mr. Patrick Martens, Director of Food & Beverage, Ratchaprasong Food Services
On August 19, 2024, MDKMITL had the honor of welcoming a special guest speaker, Mr. Patrick Martens, Director of Food & Beverage, Ratchaprasong Food Services (RFS) to our English for Medical Professions Class. As an expert in hospitality, sustainability and supply chain, our Year 1 students were introduced to the diverse concepts of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and how they relate to us in the medical field and beyond.
The highlight of the session was with our small group discussions and impromptu presentations of how our MDKMITL students perceive and identify areas that can be improved upon when it comes to developing a sustainable mindset on sustainability.
The key takebacks concluded by the students were to 1) have self-awareness of one’s own “non-sustainable habits” that lead to waste and 2) develop mindfulness for the habitual changes i.e., small and achievable daily fixes, for a brighter tomorrow.
At MDKMITL, we often reach for knowledge and insight outside of medicine to showcase dynamic approaches to success. We foster the experiences of other industry professionals to help make our students more well-rounded and adaptable for the 21st century.
Therefore, on behalf of MDKMITL, we thank Mr. Patrick Martens for his time and efforts to contribute to the development of our bright medical students.
