Learning Beyond the Classroom: Philosophy of Medicine Field Trip
On Wednesday, 15 July 2026, first-year medical students from the Faculty of Medicine, KMITL participated in an educational field trip as part of the Philosophy of Medicine course.
The students visited Phimuksthan Museum (Siriraj Bimuksthan Museum) to explore the evolution of medicine in Thailand through exhibitions on Siriraj’s medical history, surgery, Thai traditional medicine, and the cultural heritage of the Bangkok Noi community. The visit was complemented by insightful lectures from museum speakers.
In the afternoon, the students traveled to Wat Pho, where they learned about the historical significance of one of Thailand’s oldest centers of knowledge and attended a lecture on Thai Traditional Medicine delivered by expert speakers.
This field trip provided students with a deeper understanding of the historical, cultural, and humanistic foundations of medicine, reinforcing the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care while appreciating Thailand’s rich medical heritage.
At MDKMITL, we believe that becoming a great physician begins with understanding the history, values, and humanity behind medicine. 💙
