MDKMITL World Culture Academic Trip 2024 to Petchaburi

At MDKMITL, we pay homage to our past as it paves the way towards our future of success. Each year, the Y1 students take part in the World Culture course which teaches our young international medical students about human civilization, how it is shaped and how historical events have contributed to today’s medical and healthcare landscape.

 

Since our establishment, we have taught the basic principles of ancient civilizations in the classroom and this is followed by an exciting 3-day trip to a UNESCO Heritage Site in Thailand and abroad. Our “Academic Trips” showcase the ingenuity, architecture and cultures of ancient Thai civilizations from the Daravati, Sukothai, and Ayutthaya times.

 

The trip started out by introducing our lovely Y1 students to historical sites along the beautiful Petchaburi Province including: Tum Kao Luang Cave, Pra Nakorn Khiri Historical Park, Wat Mahatat Worawihan, and Pra Ram Ratchaniwet Palace. We paid homage to our great Kings, H.M. King Rama IV, also known as the Father of Thai Astrology and our great leader at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, H.M. King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V) and H.M. King Vajiravudh (King Rama VI).

 

Then, we were very honored to present modern-day works by our great late King, H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX). We visited His Majesty’s innovative Chang Hua Man Royal Project, a 250-hectare agricultural research institute and farm to cultivate different types of trees, plants and vegetables in drought areas in the Petchaburi Province. Then, we visited another great royal initiative project by King Bhumibol Adulyadej called the Laem Phak Bia Royal Project to utilize environmentally and ecologically sustainable methods to treat both wastewater and solid waste.

Along the entire trip, our Deans and Instructors accompanied the students and shared advice and insight on how to utilize this knowledge into their own lives for success. We all had a great time with each other and share the same appreciation for our great former Kings of Thailand and look forward to carrying on the torch of leadership and dedication to our nation and to our patients and society in the future.
