The First Year 1 Field Trip to Explore the History of Medicine!

On July 10, 2024, we embarked on our first field trip for our first-year medical students as a part of the Medical Philosophy Class. The trip included visits to the Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan, better known as, Wat Pho, and the Wat Pho Thai Traditional Massage Museum, a cultural heritage site, the Siriraj Medical Museum, and the Siriraj Pimuksthan Museum.

Led by Thanyaphong, Na Nakorn, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, we also brought along our MDKMITL Deans Committee, Instructors, Staff and special guest Khun Pathira Euarchukiati, esteemed member of the MDKMITl Executive External Committee, to join us for an enriching day.

The purpose of this field trip was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the medical profession and traditional Thai medicine. Students had the opportunity to learn about the historical evolution of medicine from the past to the present and to consider potential future developments.

This experience helps enhance their learning outside the classroom with visits to actual historical medical facilities and to engage with experts in the field. Additionally, since this is the first trip, it helps build strong relationships between faculty and students.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed lecturers from Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan, his holiness, Phra Maha Udom Panyapho; and Khun Thanita Poonsiri, the guides at the Siriraj Medical Museum and also at the Siriraj Pimuksthan Museum.

Their generous sharing of knowledge greatly enriched our students’ learning experience, providing a deeper understanding of the importance of historical medical foundations that have led to the development of both traditional Thai medicine and modern medical practices. We are truly thankful for their invaluable contributions and support.

The aim of our MDKMITL program is to develop physicians who can compete globally and possess professional skills that align with international standards. We prioritize the cultivation of 21st-century skills, including innovation and critical thinking, which are crucial for achieving success in research. Our goal is to nurture doctors with a global outlook, enabling them to tackle healthcare challenges worldwide effectively.
