Wisdom Through Diplomacy: MDKMITL Welcomes Mr. Sanjeev Chowdhury
The Faculty of Medicine at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (MDKMITL) had the distinct honor of welcoming Mr. Sanjeev Chowdhury, retired Canadian diplomat and former Senior Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of Canada in Thailand, as a special guest lecturer for our Y1 World Culture class.
With over 30 years of service in Canada’s foreign ministry, including appointments in Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City, Rio de Janeiro, and Bangkok, Mr. Chowdhury brought more than stories of diplomacy, he shared profound insight into leadership, service, and cross-cultural engagement. His talk challenged students to think beyond the boundaries of medicine and consider their roles as global citizens and future leaders.
Mr. Chowdhury’s distinguished career includes serving as Dean of the Consular Corps during the Rio 2016 Olympics and earning recognitions such as the UNESCO Vietnam Medal and the Vietnam Peace and Friendship Medal. He holds an honorary doctorate from Augusto Motta University in Brazil and is the first Canadian to be named an honorary citizen of Rio de Janeiro.
Now retired from government service and continuing his journey in Thailand, Mr. Chowdhury remains a living example of how diplomacy, compassion, and global understanding can shape a purposeful life.
We extend our deepest thanks to Mr. Chowdhury for inspiring our MDKMITL community and reminding us that medicine, like diplomacy, begins with listening, empathy, and the will to serve.
